EffiTorch

Project Details

Efficient valorisation of CO2 and bio-waste for long-term energy storage using a microwave plasma torch and quenching using the reverse Boudouard reaction

The EffiTorch project aims to develop an innovative and scalable solution for CO2 valorisation and bio-waste conversion into syngas for long-term energy storage. The project focuses on harnessing microwave plasma torch technology and the reverse Boudouard reaction to achieve energy efficiencies exceeding 60% and carbon efficiencies over 90%. EffiTorch also integrates hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of sewage sludge and ultrasonic atomisation of bio-oils to further enhance the efficiency of the process. By driving advancements in energy storage and waste-to-energy technologies, EffiTorch directly contributes to the EU’s net-zero emissions targets, while fostering collaboration across diverse innovation ecosystems in Europe.
