PHArA-ON: Advancing care for older adults – highlights from the Ageing Fit Conference

The Ageing Fit Conference, held on March 11-12, 2024, in Lille, France, showcased innovations dedicated to enhancing the well-being of older adults and the ecosystem around them. From pioneering projects to insightful panel discussions, the event highlighted the latest advancements in the sector while fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders.

The Ageing Fit Conference, centred on enhancing the well-being of older adults, brought together healthcare system players, investors, associations, media, research institutions, health ageing companies, care homes, and hospitals. Attendees were immersed in a comprehensive programme featuring innovative projects, networking opportunities, and informative sessions.

Exhibition

At the heart of the Ageing Fit Conference was the exhibition area, where over 74 attendees from diverse backgrounds and countries engaged with the PHArA-ON stand. Representing areas such as health and care authorities, policymakers, SMEs, industry, and the general public, these attendees were captivated by posters showcasing the PHArA-ON pilots and dynamic videos showcasing the project’s impact. From Sentab’s social network to Zensi’s intelligent behavioural monitoring, visitors could experience firsthand some of the solutions used in the project. Additionally, CATAALOG – a curated collection of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) and Active Ageing (AA) solutions – was promoted, allowing users to test and get a feel for the website. The interest in the CATAALOG platform highlighted its value in enhancing accessibility and awareness of different solutions, making it useful for both potential users and providers.

Panel Participation

The conference featured dynamic panel discussions, drawing on insights from healthcare professionals, policymakers, and industry leaders. PHArA-ON, represented by Cáritas Coimbra (Portugal), presented the Citizeen app during the panel “What are the latest technological innovations to address mental health issues among older adults?”. Approximately 60 people participated in the session, learning how the solution can support mental health by discovering blue and green spaces.

Session Participation

Throughout the two-day event, participants actively engaged in sessions and roundtable discussions, delving into various critical aspects of older adult care and innovation. Discussions encompassed investments in healthy ageing, innovative treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, challenges in technology implementation, strategies for promoting active ageing, and solutions for rural or isolated areas. PHArA-ON was represented by the University of Florence (Italy) in one session, offering valuable perspectives on innovative therapeutic approaches and diagnostics. Attendees exchanged insights and best practices, shaping the future of older adult care and innovation.

The Ageing Fit Conference not only provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and collaboration, but also highlighted the pivotal role of projects like PHArA-ON and platforms like CATAALOG in shaping the future of older adult care. As stakeholders continue to evolve innovation and collaboration, the path ahead promises a brighter future for ageing populations globally.
